Once, every household had a family herbalist and every village had a healer in the community. Today, most of us have lost touch with the healing plants that live all around us and few of us know how to make our own remedies to soothe an upset stomach, take the sting out of an insect bite, or calm a cough. In this series of classes spanning 5-months,* students will have hands-on practical study of herbal medicine, with classes divided between lecture, discussion, field and apothecary work. ... What You Can Expect To Learn Topics we will cover during the program (other topics may be added where appropriate): ~ Plant Identification ~ Harvesting basics ~ Ethical Wildcrafting ~ Preserving the Harvest ~ Herbal Medicine Making ~ Creating Essences ~ Transformational Healing Work Certification is awarded for successful completion of the program. As a student, you will spend time in the garden, on field and forest walks, in the classroom and the kitchen. Topics and discussions span the gap between practical and esoteric. Prepare for sunny or rainy days, and start collecting glass bottles and garden pots - because everyone goes home with herbal creations and medicinal plants (depending on the day's activities)! Cost of the program is $600 for the 5-class ...........($700 if adding the Magickal Herbalism portion in October). A $200 deposit is due upon registration, with full payment due one week prior to class start date. A payment plan is available, if necessary, and a work-study option is also a possibility for a limited number of students. (Contact us to learn about and apply for the work-study option, which trades garden work for a portion of tuition!) When the new schedule is announced, be sure to take advantage of the Early Registration option and save $100. *A sixth month of magical herbalism has been added for the month of October! While working with herbs can be as simple and as pragmatic as choosing the appropriate plants at their optimum harvest time, knowing which parts to procure and how, and how to prepare them to stock your herbal remedy cabinet, there is another aspect of herbalism that has been lost and is often overlooked as forbidden. In October, for those who choose to add this portion to their program, we will meet and work with elementals, astrological influences, and create magical gifts for ourselves and our homes. |
